AN ENDORSEMENT

The American Mastodon has taken a bit of flack for not enjoying David O. Russel's over-act fest "I Heart Huckabees" which, to be fair, was a movie with genuine moments of brilliance and insight. He just didn't care for it all that much. What, pray tell, is a movie that the AM does care for? And cares for quite some bit?

"Sideways", dear readers. It's fucking great, and if you don't like it, you're either a homo or an Arab, but you're certainly not an American; you are, to be sure, no lover of things pure and sweet.

I've loved every film by Alexander Payne, I'm sure I'll love this one as well. My favorite has to be "Citizen Ruth". I have to say, initially I was turned off by the prescence of Thomas Hayden Church...I mean, isn't he the guy from "Wings" and that failed sitcom "Ned and Stacy"?

Thomas Hayden Church? On the silver screen? Pardon me while I pause to pick up my jaw from the floor…I’ve been at the helm of the Midwest chapter of the “Ned and Stacy” Fan Club for about 8 years. Besides getting out and mobilizing for NedandStacyCon every year, which by the way occurs every year at the Jefferson City Ramada Inn on the 2nd Saturday in November, I’ve been praying for the day that Tom stars in a real movie. And, to think I was all prepared to make some stupidass comment that if I wanted to see a movie about running around drinking alcohol, I’d pull out my bootlegged Beta copy of Strange Brew. Everybody’s going to laugh at me at NedandStacyCon next month if I haven’t seen this already. Reagan, thanks for looking out, even though we’ll apparently have to agree to disagree on the brilliance of Mr. Church’s thespianic contributions over the years. Let’s hope this is the first of many movies featuring actors from that seminal series set on the idyllic island of Nantucket, “Wings”.

I'm alarmed by your recent and profuse use of the word "homo." I don't think it's as funny as you've been led to believe.

In retaliation, I'm going to start using "slack-jawed, self-allergic Hoosier" in places on my blog that you might see as ripe for a "homo."

Thank goodness Shakti has a healthy sense of humor and isn't Arabian.

Shakti, I also find it odd that you take umbrage with my use of the word "homo", though you seem contented with my (dare I say "apparent") condemnation of Arabs, yellowed-people, women, and on occassion, fat-assed fatties.

First, I should clarify that in my blog I've only used the word "homo" once. On the other occassions where the word is used, I was merely quoting some other "gaywad". And, to be sure, only a person uncomfortable with their own sexuality would infer that my use of the word "homo" implied "a homosexual" and not, as I had intended, "a homosapien", or even, "a homeo...wner".

Koop: Eat me. Get a blog.

AM: The next time I'm in LA, if I get my hands on you, I'll show you just how uncomfortable with my own sexuality I am!

Koop and AM: Look, I'm all for inappropriate and offensive humor. I wouldn't read and love all the blogs that I do otherwise. Something just rubs me the wrong way about slurs--any slurs--even when they're used comedically. I don't know what is. I'm afraid I won't be able to articulate this well. If those words are going to be used in humor, I'd just like to see some kind of acknowledgement of the ignorance behind them--how they can hurt people. Like a transformation or a reclaimation a la what Richard Pryor and Chris Rock have done with the "N-word." Otherwise, I think they just kind of lay there potent with more offense than you want. Of course, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong. I'm a delicate little flower. And I've seen friends and family hurt by that word in particular, so it pushed my buttons.

Thanks for the note, Shakti. Just so we're all on the same page, though, my previous post "FUCKING HOMO" was not my writing, but rather a direct quote from a homosexual man himself, a punk-rock god and self-described "motherfucker of a metal guitar player" who, in that article, basically kicks ass and refuses to take names. Not even homo names. Using the term "homo" in this post was meant to be funny since it referred to the word that was used so often by the gentleman in the post a few inches down. And I don't think that the "n-word" and "homo" are really that synonymous. Just my perspectivo.

Also, I meant to tell you that I used "homo" because I am clairvoyant and knew that in the coming days scientists would be discovering a new species of tiny humans on an Indonesian island, the hobbit-like Homo floresiensis.

Also, Shakti, as an addendum to my previous comment, you state that "If those words are going to be used in humor, I'd just like to see some kind of acknowledgement of the ignorance behind them--how they can hurt people."

This is a good point, and I agree with you. I just take it on face value that there are only about 6 people who read this blog, all of whom know me and know that I love, as R. Lee Ermey said, "niggers, kikes, wops and greasers". And, of course, homos. Maybe there are people who read this site who don't know that when I talk about gooks and yellow people, I'm not trying to be racist against chinks, I just think it's funny to refer to groups of people by the simplest and most easily offensive moniker.

And lastly, if you'd like to label me, and call me what I truly am - an incredibly intelligent, beautiful, good-natured, strong-shouldered and magnificent Aryan beyond compare, then please, by all means, feel free. It won't hurt my feelings.

Shakti, brilliant. That was the wittiest retort I've heard since 'Nuh uh'.

I'll make some calls to Late Night w/ Conan and the Daily Show and see if I can't get you a writer's job.

There will be no name calling or finger-pointing on this website between readers and commenters. Feel free to make fun of others, but not each other.

Proceed.

What are you talking about? I call you names all the time, AM! Besides, he misspelled my name. I didn't go through all the trouble of getting crowned as King Koopa to have people misspell my name.

AM: Just for the record, I don't think "homo" and the "N-word" are synonymous, either. I do think they each carry the potential to hurt someone, though.

Koop: I know how to spell your name, I'm just nicknaming you. And make the calls to CONAN and the DAILY SHOW. Sure. And while you're at it, get a blog.

BK/CK said...

OK, I can play the nickname game. Because, to me it's all the same.

I dub thee, "Shakti Revolution". Uh-oh wait, is that name-calling? I don't want to get banned from this place. I'd start my own except I want it to be an audioblog and me not know how. Me not too bright with computers.
