SUPER FANTASTIC AMAZING TUESDAY MORNING FLASH POLL!!

Who is the funniest comedian of all time?

A) Robin Williams
B) Billy Crystal

Let's hear what random people on IMDb have to say:

Pro-Robin: The hardest thing in the acting business is to make someone laugh. And laugh hard! Robin Williams succeeds with what seems like ease, he just fires one joke after another and around 20% are so amazingly funny you wonder if you ever saw a funnier stand-up performance in your life. He made me realize one other thing - comedians are the philosophers of modern time, they are hardcore critics of current state of politics, drugs, sports, environment, just name it, they have witty and to the spot anecdotes for every subject. Without them we would be so much emptier, they realize stuff that's true just no one else sees it.

Pro-Billy: This is Billy Crystal's show. He has an understated, ordinary, humble screen presence. It's not the case that every single line HAS to be funny in order for us to like him - with Crystal, a joke can fall flat and somehow it doesn't make him personally look bad. But here every line IS funny, so he has charm to burn.

Now, you decide!! Cast your votes below!

Seems like everybody's having a tough time deciding!

Why choose one when you can have both? Favorite Ebert quote: "This movie could have been written by a computer."

Users gave the movie 3 and a half stars.

Ebert, you're on notice.

Blogger totally ate my joke about Father's Day and then cna scooped me.

If I'm really honest, though, cna's joke was better than mine. Blogger is a rough but fair editor.

Neither. The Cos.

Oh, and by the way, screw you for censoring me and my posts yesterday. That "moderator approval" shit was the weakest blog-related thing I've heard of in a long time. Ridiculous. Please take your fascist f'n blog and insert it where the Metamucil comes out. Keep having everybody pat you on the back. You're brilliant. As always. Simply brilliant.

Koopa out.

Thanks, Koopa. Didn't even know the comments had a cap on them until cna told me about this morning.

And keep the compliments coming!

Also, Bill Cosby wasn't one of the options. The best comedian in the world is either Billy Crysal or Robin Williams.

To reiterate, if I wasn't clear before: I didn't know that no one could post comments. Nothing popped up in my inbox. You could have emailed me about it and I would have fixed it. You think I want to censor you? Please. Getting a lot of people to comment is always fun.

And, again, please choose between either Billy Crystal or Robin Williams. They are your only options.

Comments cap, huh? Hmmmmmmm, that sounds a little too convenient. I was thinking more along the lines of conspiracy-against-koopa-and-his-religious-opinions when all of a sudden the comments had to be approved by some fascist "moderator". I still don't totally believe you, but you seem to want me to believe you, so...I suppose your brilliantass has earned the benefit of the doubt, begrudgingly...but...it's still shady...and sketchy...and dubious...

If not The Cos (fascist AND racist?, explosive mixture there buddy), then Crystal. Only because Robin Williams tries too hard and I hate that. Too spastic, w/ the free associations and the body hair and whatnot. And because part of the inspiration for 'Koopa's Hideaway' came from Crystal's SNL skit 'Fernando's Hideaway'..."My credo is: 'It is better to look good than to feel good.' You know what I'm saying and you know who you are." Brilliant.

Gallagher!

Mathis said...

The original or his brother?

TJ said...

Gallagher has a brother? Who's also a comedian? Man, I smell a sitcom!

Oh, and now I see that this comments cap b.s. is what killed my Father's Day joke? For shame. It really was funny. It used the phrase "sucked eggs"--now how often do you hear that? It was gold. No cna-scoured Ebert archives, but gold nonetheless.

Mathis said...

Gallagher vs. Gallagher.

Mathis said...

Also, as proof: this.

Ofc. Krupke said...

Crystal over Williams. Steve Martin over both.

I know that wasn't one of the options. Call it a protest vote.

I'm with Krupke. Crystal has more appeal for me ( (call me a philestine and send me to K-Mart--I actually think "Mr. Saturday Night" is a very funny and touching little film), but give me Steve Martin anytime.

I get it--this is like one of those "Would you rather snort battery acid through your tear ducts, or eat your own live hamster?" things, right?

I choose NOT to choose.

P.S. An eternity of typing word verification gibberish is almost preferable to seeing any movie either of them has produced in the last ten years. Almost.

You guys don't give a fucking shit about the rules, do you? What do you think this is, Nam?

"Everybody gets what they want. We wanted a mission. And, for our sins, he gave us one. Brought it up to us like room service. It was a real choice mission, and when it was over, we'd never want another...

"'Who is the funniest comedian of all time? A) Robin Williams, or B) Billy Crystal?'

"We took the mission. What the hell else were we gonna do?"
