"YOU'VE BEEN GONE FOUR YEARS, BOY"

--Is four years a long time?
--It's half a boy's life.
--(shakes head in amazement) Half a boy's life.

Some thoughts on Paris, Texas:

1) Best movie ever? High on the list.

2) Was Nastassja Kinski the most beautiful woman that ever lived? I could make a convincing argument.

3) Harry Dean Stanton - awesome in that gruff but sensitive uncle kind of way, but better than Richard Farnsworth? Fuck. Total toss-up.

4) Wim Wenders. Can this be the same guy that made Million Dollar Hotel? Can it really?

5) Ok, ready? Good - ok, name a better avant-garde playwright/actor/short story writer than Sam Shepard. Take your time. Keep thinking. No, seriously I've got all day. Well, I'll move on to number six, but you keep thinking.

6) The scene where Travis and Hunter walk from the school to their house on opposites sides of the road? Slightly better than all of Citizen Kane.

7) Finally, and most importantly, why don't I wear cowboy boots?

You're veering dangerously close to the Larry King lane.

I guess driving drunk on the internet interstate is never a good idea. One imagines a certain lucidity and feels the urge to preserve it for the sake of...well, preservation, and it was either this or write about House MD, because seriously, last night was the best episode ever.

Also, if I had four awards to give, I'd give em all to the Golden Girls.

Hey, who's that strapping young footballer in the picture? Such inimitable style and textbook execution, I can see why he made captain...However, with moves like that, I intuit a painful and demoralizing ACL tear in his not-so-distant future.

Cool uniforms though.

I retract my previous post on the basis that the picture I was referring to is no longer on the page.

I don't even know who that handsome devil was...

Lemme just say that same handsome devil dances nearly as well as he plays... soccer, that is.

Yeah, well, the handsome devil didn't grow up spending all his summer vacations in Jasmine's Happy Feet Dance Company for nuthin'.

Regardless, the handsome devil questions the sincerity of that remark.

Poopypants Sumday is right. I feel really bad about contravening yet another blog by-law. 'Don't flirt with anonymous bloggers', how could I have forgotten that one?

Are you sure that wasn't "Debra Collier's School of Dance"?

LOL LIKE OMIGOD you did not just break out Deb Collier's School of Dance. Memories - oh my lord! - so many memories. Those painful elementary school nights watching sister Mastodon and her cohorts break out their jazz hands and tumbling and tap dance, all in the comfort of the Lakeview auditorium - so many sequins, so many feathers, so much rouge! My eyes!!

Ol Deb Collier's...there was always a guy or two in there (who never heard the end of it from fellow classmates). I wasn't one of them. I was over at Jasmine's Happy Feet learning the Pee-Wee Herman.

Those jumbo girls could stand to learn a step or two from yours truly, is all I'm saying.
Plus they told us taught us to put band-aids over our nips when we got to a certain age. Say 8, or, again, in the case of yours truly, twelvish.
